The story is already familiar, so instead of wondering what will happen next, you begin noticing smaller details—the pauses in a conversation, the way two characters react to each other, and the gradual changes in their relationship. I recently watched Green Book for the second time, and that was exactly my experience. Directed by Peter Farrelly and released in 2018, the film follows pianist Dr. Don Shirley and Tony "Lip" Vallelonga as they travel together through the American South in the early 1960s. What stayed with me most this time was not simply the historical setting or the larger social issues surrounding the story. It was the relationship between two people who initially seem to have very little in common...
